Dry January & Dewsbury 10k - John Lambe

James LambeAt the beginning of this year John Lambe, of Huddersfield undertook 'Dry January' and gave up alcohol until 7th February, as well as running the Dewsbury 10K, to raise funds for 'Stamp Out Suicide' (SOS).

John’s aim was to raise £200, however through the generosity of sponsors, he surpassed his target and raised £1000! for which he is very grateful to all contributors.

Tandem Skydive - Shirley Sass

Shirley SassShirley Sass will be doing a tandem skydive over the fields of Salisbury on the 27th September in aid of SOS and the Five Valleys  Hedgehog and Wildlife Rescue.

Shirley is raising funds through her paypal shirleysas@hotmail.co.uk

On behalf of SOS I'd like to thank Shirley so much for being a great support to us and wish her the very best of luck. Looking forward to watching you doing your Skydive.

Haz did the zip wire at 150 feet above the streets of Liverpool on Sunday 13th September and raised £130 for SOS. I'd like to thank all who sponsored me. I have to say it's much appreciated but you won't catch me doing it any time soon again. It scared the life out of me.

A bit (more) about SOS

SOS was formed in the summer of 2015 by Colm Farrell, of Tuam, County Galway, Ireland, who spent over six hundred days on the road walking every single County in the Ireland in 2012-13 and the 86 Counties of the UK in 2013 – 2014 to raise awareness of suicide. Colm stopped with John Lambe in Huddersfield on his travels, who has kept in touch since following his progress and efforts regarding SOS.

Colm formed SOS as a result of identifying the need for counseling and support which currently isn't widely or readily available. SOS offers a free telephone counseling service to anyone in the UK.

The service is up and running with premises located in Kirkstall, Leeds, due to the kind support of a local businessman. Drop in counseling sessions are planned in the coming months, with the premises also being available for the use of groups too.
